Sunday's Sermon

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Although God’s love is unconditional, His willingness to provide His blessings and power through the spirit is seldom the case. He will not enable constant, disobedient behavior, which is fueled by the enemy whose goal is to steal, kill and destoy the hearts, minds and bodies of men.

Would a truly loving father reward, support and bless his children if they continued to demonstrate hate, violence, rebellion, disobedience, pride, greed, lust, sloth, gluttony, envy, anger and unforgiveness? These conditions cause self-destruction and suffering, damaging not only the individual, but also most every relationship.

One example that comes to mind is divorce caused by infidelity. It amazes me that it takes divorce to bring eventual forgiveness, leaving children heartbroken. Even though they learn to live with it, the damage is severe and enduring. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Yes God loves us sinners, but He hates sinful actions and attitudes. If my actions are consistently sinful, how can he bless and empower my life? God doesn’t have to punish me, He need only back off and allow me to suffer the painful consequences of my choices and actions. Unfortunately, these actions almost always damage others.

God, by example, has historically demonstrated tough love to His children. Some surrender to His love and His will, most do not. Claiming to be a Christian is more than just believing in Christ. Lucifer himself knows Jesus and the power and love of God, yet has the freewill to choose and pursue his own desires.

Surrendering to God’s will and reflecting His love to everyone is the key to allowing God to bless and empower us. It is only by the power of the spirit that this can be accomplished. It’s not difficult to observe who possess this power. The mirror will not reflect the condition of our heart.

Not as easy as it sounds!
