Space
It may not be the final frontier.

Protect and serve! I’m sure that was the first priority when DHS released 3,700 “Threat Level 1” illegal aliens back into our communities. What would happen to American citizens in that same situation?

On the lighter side...

DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) is where the Pentagon believes the outcome of future wars will be determined. Based on what I have read, we are in a race with China, who partnered with Russia, in creating transhuman technology. Their ambitions are not a secret anymore, although you won't be kept apprised by the main stream media.
DARPA is working on advanced robotics, an artificial human brain, next-gen robotic aircraft, advanced prosthetics, and self-teaching computers (if anyone's going to build a recursively improving AI it's going to be DARPA).io9.com
Would our military spend $70 million to help the mentally ill? They are funding a program for brain implants that interface with a computer to regulate human emotions. Who better to test it on than the mentally ill. If you believe this the end game of this program, you are probably better off.

Next on their list to develop is a “cortical modem”, to see what you see without glasses or goggles. To see through your eyes and control your emotions, what could they do with that?

How far off do you believe we are from replacing the human species with super humanoids?  Once they teach a super-computer to think and reason (recursively improving) like we do, knowledge will increase exponentially.  The movie "Transcendence" will no longer be considered a work of fiction but a film on prophesy.  Man's search for immorality will be over; even though man, as we know him now, will not exist.

Your children or grandchildren may be able to choose their children's specific biology: how smart, how strong, how large, even possibly their lifespan.  Incorporating the DNA of other species into them is not outside the realm of possibilities.

One thing is certain, we live in a very interesting time in history. This may be how leadership plans to make the earth sustainable, through a non-reproducing, AI, transhuman species that will be its workforce and consume few natural resources.

Could humans beings go the way of the dinosaur?
