While it will take awhile for the NTSB investigation, it sounds possible the aircraft was over gross.
I have always been fascinated by the large single turbines: Socata TBM, Malibu Meridian, Pilatus. Great short field performance at a much lower op cost than jets. Sad to hear about the tragic loss of lives on this one.
