Anon - I follow your logic. You're right, neither of those was prevented. But once the shooting begins and the *stuff* hits the fan, I'm not gonna go running to look for the nearest Gun Free Zone sign to show the bad guy.
Snark all you wish, but it's a reasonable conjecture that absent armed good guys in the vicinity, there would've been more carnage in both cases.
Do not believe the hype about recent school shootings! They are bogus! Just heard the first responders at Sandy Hook are being treated for PTSD! They are liars trying to change the appearance of things. Do not believe it!

Soldiers on Fort Hood are not allowed to carry loaded guns. The soldiers were unarmed, and the Major who did the shooting knew it.
