709 people vote on a $36 million bond for BISD… $36,000,000.00! What’s wrong with this picture?
BISD is not a business. Asserting "only pennies on the dollar" is no longer valid since our property taxes have become quite a burden. Land & property are being auctioned off on the court house steps in Decatur because people aren't able to pay their mortgage, much less their property taxes!
Asserting the "projected growth" is no longer valid as well. The economy has dealt a serious blow to thousands of lives in Wise County. People are leaving to look for employment. Increasing property taxes make home ownership less affordable. Cost of living increases since business will pass the tax increase along to the consumer.
Why can't the affluent board members of BISD curb spending and focus on using current tax revenue? It seems obvious they have no idea what the average, hard-working taxpayer is going through to pay their property taxes. If they, themselves had trouble paying their own property taxes, I believe spending and oversight would be different. Message to all taxing entities, please stop over-taxing Wise County property owners.
I understand that the BISD board wants to improve the district; but having the best of everything does not make a better school, hiring better teachers will. Some of our best teachers have already been run off to other districts.
God Bless America, God Bless you and God Bless our children, but stop hurting the ones who are paying to educate our children.
Many people are sick of reading stories like this.

The current policies in BISD of what appears to be promoting from outside the district rather than growing our own, has already taken a tole on our resources. Many years ago someone told me that BISD is like getting a private christian school education at a public school price, and while I found that to be true, I also see that slowing fading away as more and more of our leaders leave as they find the rungs are missing on their carrer ladders.
