Natural Born Citizen

The following is a story occurring in an AP Government class at Santa Fe High School…

In one civics class, the young adults were discussing the qualifications to be President of the United States. It was pretty simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen and at least 35 years of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.

The class was just taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?"

This, my friends, is the future of our nation…

Originally posted this as a joke. I thought the advanced placement student coming up with her statement was funny! I would have been better off making a joke about the Pope... Jeeeesh! DC

I see nothing wrong with letting someone be president who was born via c-section. How would you know anyway? Look at his mom's stomach? What if she was dead?
You right wingers are nuts! All you care about is your guns....what does it matter how someone was born?

I thought the the student's comment was genius.

"Natural born" means something right? The text doesn't say "born" it says "natural born." I had never thought about that.

I suspect you believe there is no "separation of church and state" and no "right of privacy" (that legalized abortion) because those exact words weren't found in the constitution. Am I right?

I'm not saying the student is correct, I'm saying that you need to open your mind to the opinions of others. Something you constantly prove that you are incapable of doing.

Opening our minds to wrong opinions is what has brought us tremendous diversity.
No one wants unity anymore. Everyone is right and no one is wrong.
Give me a break.
The day we decide to speak one language and be one people we will be one nation.
As we are here everyone is worried about others opnions.
Be an AMERICAN!
But that's the problem, you want to be everything but an American.

I stand corrected! "Natural born citizen" was never defined in our Constitution.

NOW HERE THIS!

You are no longer a natural born US citizen if you were the product of in vitro fertilisation, artificial insemination, or c-section delivery. You are not a natural born citizen if, at the time of conception, any type of contraceptive was used or if either parent was under the influence of alcohol, drugs (legal or illegal) or any non-organic substance. This also applys if the woman uses or ingests alcohol, drugs (legal or illegal), or any non organic substance into her body during the gestation period of the embryo or fetus.

I have been mistakenly operating under the premise that John Bingham, author of the 14th ammendment, defined natural born citizen when he stated, "Any human born to parents who are US citizens and are under no other jurisdiction or authority."

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I've been called many names and many things, but this is the first time anyone has told me, "you want to be everything but an American"

You said, "No one wants unity anymore."

It's obvious that you don't want unity; otherwise, you wouldn't say that I don't want to be an American.

Craziest thing though, I would die for this country...a country where people believe I don't want to be an American.

You're the biggest hypocrite I've ever had post a comment on my blog.

God Bless You, anyway...

Hey, dumbass, 2:22 wasn't referring to you, Denny.

Denny,
2:22 here. I was responding to 12:40's comment. Not you. I frequent this blog and have found very few of your posts disagreeing with my values.
12:40 made the comment about opening our minds.
I'm sick and tired of being rideculed for not being tolerant of others. I think that mentality has divided our country and I would imagine that you agree.
Keep up the good work.

OMG,

I'm not used to someone throwing zingers at someone else... I guess I need a vacation, or enima maybe.

I can't believe I got in the middle of a conflict that I wasn't the instigator... damn!

In that case, nevermind...

Hey, brother.
The joke was great! That's why I threw my two cents in at 11:41.

I deal with kids like that all day, you wouldn't believe the stories I hear.

Nice going Brother Butthead, there you go only thinking you had one or two readers. Heck they are having their own arguements -- without you. I salute you and toast me pint to you.
