Mark Sanford, South Carolina governor

I am not usually impressed by the behavior of any politician, especially on the national level, but this Republican governor seems like the real thing: a conservative.

The American Conservative has written a fairly objective and informative article that describes Governor Sanford as an unpopular tight wad...a learned behavor from his younger years. It lists his accomplishments as well as his faults; irresponsible spending is not one of his faults.

One must admit, Governor Sanford stands by his conviction like a bear devouring its prey. He has been against TARP and the Stimulus bill from the beginning. President Obama denied his request to use South Carolina's portion of the Stimulus to pay down debt; which is forbidden. The Democratic National Committee began running attack ads against the Governor for not supporting the Stimulus Bill and he responded brilliantly.

How does a man of principle and character behave in a difficult situation? He stands behind his principles and denies Stimulus money because “…he doesn’t believe we should spend money we don’t have…” Damn, I wish I would have said that! He even wrote a brief explaining his position, "Why South Carolina Doesn't Want 'Stimulus'".

Say all you want to about this guy, but I have to admire his convictions and applaude his actions. I believe the Obama administration and the DNC will regret attacking those who oppose them. Pen that bear in a corner and watch what happens...shooting it will just make him more angry.
