Good thing they didn't have zero-tolerance when I was in school. I'd have been expelled, permanently. I used to routinely have water pistols confiscated - sometimes until the end of the day, or the end of the semester.

While attending The College In Arlington, I took a MILS (Military Science) class to get out of PE (I had an afternoon white collar job and didn't want to get sweaty). At that time, we could take our own .22s to the basement range (under the PE building) for target practice.

Different times...

I have never heard of Texas having this requirement. If it exists, and I doubt it, it certainly isn't enforced.

And Texas Rule of Evidence 603 states: "Before testifying, every witness shall be required to declare that the witness will testify truthfully, by oath or affirmation administered in a form calculated to awaken the witness' conscience and impress the witness' mind with the duty to do so."
